Gamification & XP System

Work Games turns daily work into a rewarding experience with a full gamification system. Every task you complete contributes to your progression. Gamification in Work Games is a choice. Every team member and every team can choose at any time if they want to participate in the gaming experience or not.

Experience Points (XP)

XP is the core currency of Work Games. You earn XP by:

  • Completing tasks — XP is based on the task's estimated effort or actual effort after completing a task. The idea is simple, more effort, more XP.
  • Defeating team quests — Co-Op battles reward XP to the team. Yes, team progress is a part of Work Games as well!

XP Estimates

Tasks can have XP values assigned based on their estimated effort. You can choose how you wish your team to estimate their tasks, or even not estimate at all and use the actual effort it took to complete a task as the XP reward. We recommend using task estimates created by the team, as it will promote fairness. You can choose from the following types of estimates:

  • Story Points - Common metric used to estimate effort
  • Time - Estimate how long you think a task will take
  • Difficulty - Assign a difficulty to a task easy/normal/hard/very-hard

Leveling Up

XP accumulates toward your player level. The leveling curve is progressive — each level requires more XP than the last, creating a sense of continuous growth. Teams also have their own level that increases when daily team goals are completed.

Streaks

Daily streaks track consecutive days where you complete your daily goal. Streaks encourage consistent engagement and reward reliability. When a streak breaks, you start building again from zero — creating a positive pressure loop that promotes healthy daily habits. Even though streaks exist, only Team Goal streaks are visible to all team members. Personal streaks are for your eyes only.

Item Drops

Completing tasks and daily goals triggers random game drops — rewards that appear with animated presentations. Drops include:

  • Lock-in drops — received when you commit to your daily goal
  • Task completion drops — random drops when completing individual tasks
  • Daily goal drops — guaranteed drop when you finish your full daily goal

Game Mode Toggle

All gamification elements can be toggled off with a single switch. In standard mode, the platform functions as a clean work management tool without XP, levels, or game visuals. You can switch between modes at any time.
